Chakri Memorial Day or known as “King Buddha Yodfa Chulaloke the Great Day and Chakri Dynasty Memorial Day” is a national public holiday in Thailand every 6th of April to honor the contribution of the kings of Chakri dynasty who have been ruling Thailand since 1782.

On this day, the people of Thailand shows their love and respect to the kings of Chakri dynasty. Many Thais celebrate the dynasty by placing flowers on statues of Rama I. Others, go to the Wat Phra Kaew and other temples where there are ceremonies held to give thanks.

The royal family also performs a special ceremony to pay respects to their ancestors. At the Grand Palace, this is also the one day of the year that the interior of the Pantheon building is open to all; it contains life-sized statues of the first eight kings of the Chakri dynasty.

For anyone visiting Thailand, this day is an excellent day to witness the unity of Thai people in honoring the kings from their contributions in culture and history of the country.
