It is a 59 meters tall and 1, 950 meters long making it so called the Earth-filled Dam.

Mae Ngat Somboon Chon Dam was formerly known as “Mae Ngud Dam”. This dam was built in order to provide irrigation for agriculture in Mae Ngud basin.

Aside from being a well-known attraction in Sri Lanna National Park, Mae Ngat Somboon Chon Dam has a lot of contribution to the well- being of local people in irrigation area in terms of agriculture which is their main source of income. It also helps relief the problem of floods in the city of Chiang Mai. Most importantly, it serves as a location for marine life farming which became their second source of income.

Accommodations and restaurants are available at the dam for those who want to relax and visit the place. To get here, drive along Highway 107 (Chiang Mai-Fang Road) until reaching the 14st km and turn right for 11-12 km.
